Hackathon Winning UX Case Study

Slush × Illusian Hackathon

The world is shaped by growing instabilities and inequalities that continue to hinder how society functions. many women experiencing abuse struggle not because help doesn’t exist, but because it is not accessible when and how they need it. Abuse often happens privately, escalates quietly, and leaves little visible evidence. Victims may feel isolated, unsafe, and unsure of where to turn—especially when support systems are unavailable or unresponsive. S.H.E. was created to address this gap by providing a safe, discreet, and supportive digital space that allows women to protect themselves, document abuse without raising suspicion, and access help when they need it most—all while blending seamlessly into everyday life.

Challenge

How might we use emerging technology for social good in 2030? The hackathon brief highlighted a growing contradiction: technology connects us globally, yet inequality, violence, and social blindness persist. While digital tools continue to evolve, some of the most vulnerable people remain unseen and unsupported—especially in situations where seeking help openly can increase risk. For women experiencing abuse, existing solutions are often either too visible, too reactive, or inaccessible when support is needed most. The challenge was to design a near-future solution that addresses this gap in a way that is discreet, scalable, and grounded in real human needs.

Solution

To design a discreet, AI-powered safety app that helps women experiencing abuse document evidence, access support, and protect themselves—without drawing attention or increasing personal risk.

Process

Before starting the design, we conducted interviews with students and their key pain points. Additionally, I have started to think about the information architecture of an app and user flows.

Process

I developed Lo-Fi Wireframes with a focus on clarity, usability, and engagement. The design includes a simple onboarding flow for seamless registration, a personalized dashboard for quick access to key features, and an interactive country comparison tool with visual statistics and explanations. To encourage daily learning, the app integrates gamified elements like challenges and progress tracking, making cross-cultural education more engaging and effective.

Implementation

The final design was carefully prepared for development, with detailed specifications for layout, interactions, and responsive behaviour. The team created comprehensive design UI kit to ensure consistent implementation across the digital platform.
